NOTE: This article is part of a six-question series providing a structured process to Meet the business need for insight
A grade property is typically included in Orgvue datasets as grades provide a foundation for managing workforce economics. In addition, Design Principles are often defined with reference to grades, for example, ‘executive grades are only to be found in the top three layers’, and ‘no grade-on-grade or reversed management reporting lines.”
It is often necessary to ‘collapse’ grade increments into bands to provide the required level of insight and avoid information overload.
The following questions will help to identify the application of grades in your analysis:
- Does the organization have any Design Principles relating to Grade?
- How does the grade structure relate to reward frameworks?
- Are there target compensation ranges for grades?
- How is grade determined and applied (e.g., Job Architecture methodology)
- For people
- For positions
- For jobs/ roles
