From Workspace or Settings, data contained in datasets and presented in slides can be exported if the required user permissions are held. CSV or TSV formats enable transfer into required systems and packages.
The data included in the export file depends on the application used:
- Exports from Settings always include every dataset property and exclude all Generated Properties;
- Exports from Workspace can include both dataset and generated properties and can be limited to only the properties you need. The export can also be limited to subgroups of nodes by Filtering. This enables a manageable quantity of data to be exported. In addition, calculated measures for subgroups can be included.
TIP: Exporting data can result in unwieldy spreadsheets when every dataset property and/ or every Generated Property is included. Avoid this by:
-
Setting up a Worksheet showing the data you want to export. The Label, ID and Manager ID properties do not need to be shown as these will always be exported. You can include any Generated Properties you require and any calculated measures (See Analyse, visualize, and edit data with Worksheets).
- Applying a Filter enables you to to limit the export to a subgroup of Nodes.
- Exporting from Workspace (see below).
- Selecting ‘Current’ at the ‘Slides’ section in the ‘Export’ window. (Point 3b, below).
Exporting data from Workspace
To benefit from the above Tip, first, select the slide displaying the data to be exported:
- Select the ‘Export' icon.
- Select the required format; ‘CSV or ‘TSV. Alternatively, these can be selected
- from the ‘Data menu; or
- by right clicking a slide in the sorter and selecting ‘Export’.
- At the ‘Slides’ option in the ‘Export’ window, specify:
- ‘All’ to include every dataset property and every generated property in the export; Or
- ‘Current’ to include only the data shown on the slide.
- If the slide has a Filter applied, the export will include only cases which are included in the Filter. This provides a way to limit your export to a subset of Nodes.
- Paging however does not affect the export: When a subset of data is being shown as a result of Paging, the export will include all nodes.
- Select ‘Download’.
Exporting data from Settings
When datasets are exported from Settings, Generated Properties are always excluded, and every dataset property is always included.
- Select the dataset to be exported.
- Select the ‘…’ icon.
- Select ‘Download’.
- Specify the required format for values within date properties.
- Specify the required file format.
- Select ‘Download’.
