This article explains how to save changes which have been made to your packs and to your data.
Reminder: Data changes and Pack changes are saved separately
The actions you take whilst working in a Pack will either:
- Change the underlying data being used to populate slides. These are saved as Data changes.
- Change the format and content of the slides in your pack. These are saved as Pack changes.
Unsaved pack changes (a) and unsaved data changes (b), are indicated with a blue marker in the information bar:
Saving Pack Changes
- Select the ‘Pack’ menu.
- Select ‘Save’ or ‘Save as’.
- ‘Save as …’ will be the only option:
- When a new pack is being saved for the first time; or
- When there are no unsaved changes.
- ‘Save as …’ will be the only option:
If ‘Save’ is selected, the pack is saved.
If ‘Save as … ’ is selected:
- Enter a name for the pack.
- Select ‘Save’.
Saving Data Changes
Note: Saving data requires permissions which are managed by your company’s Orgvue Administrator, or by the Dataset Owner.
If a Draft is being used:
- Select the ‘Data’ menu.
- Select ‘Save’ (‘Save as’ is rarely appropriate as this will create a Draft of a Draft).
When a Draft is being used, its name is shown on the information bar:
When a Dataset is being used, only the Pack Name and the Dataset Name is shown on the information bar.
If a Dataset is being used, changes can be saved to the Dataset or saved as a Draft.
-
When changes are saved to the Dataset, it is permanently updated:
- All subsequent users see the latest saved data.
- Changes cannot be reverted after saving.
- Any content in Changes List and Changes Report slides is reset.
- Any Views created from the dataset will be updated.
- Only save the Dataset when you want it to be permanently updated to and don’t need to maintain a record of your changes.
-
When changes are saved as a Draft: A record of the data changes is saved; the underlying data remains unchanged. Therefore:
- Changes can be reverted after saving.
- A record your changes and the impact of planned changes is maintained in Changes List and Changes Report slides.
- Save as a Draft when you need a safe environment to model changes.
- Select the ‘Data’ menu.
- Select ‘Save’ to save changes to the Dataset. At this point your Dataset is saved.
- Select ‘Save as’ to save changes as a Draft.
If ‘Save as’ is selected:
- Select ‘Draft’.
- Enter a name for the Draft.
- Select Save.
The Draft is now shown on the information bar.
