‘Cloning’ provides an efficient way to add a position or multiple new positions to the organization structure. When an existing position is 'cloned', it is duplicated: Its property values are applied to the position(s) being added.
Some properties typically need to be excluded when cloning. For example, when using people data, it is unhelpful to clone the name of the employee. Properties with the ‘noclone’ tag do not get populated when a position is cloned. This is outlined in the second section, below.
Note: if you are using an Org Modelling solution with 'As-Is' and 'To-Be' properties, nodes in the baseline should not be cloned: Depending on your setup, the As-Is data may also be cloned which will compromise your baseline. Please discuss the specifics of your setup with your Orgvue representative.
Add a new position by cloning an existing position
- Select the position to be cloned.
- Select ‘Clone Node’ from the action toolbar, or the bottom menu.
- Specify the number of positions to be added (two in this example).
- Select ‘Clone’.
Positions are added as team members (‘siblings’) of the cloned node:
Note: Because cloning changes the underlying data, the data will need to be saved.
Specify properties to be excluded when cloning
Any properties with the tag ‘noclone’ do not get populated when a position is cloned. Values for these properties are left blank to be entered manually.
- Open ‘Manage Properties’ from Settings or Workspace
- From Settings:
- Select the requires dataset
- Select ‘…’
- Select ‘Manage properties’
- From Workspace:
- Select ‘Data’
- Select ‘Manage Properties’
- From Settings:
- Select the property to be excluded when cloning (Salary in this example)
- Enter ‘noclone’ in the Tags field (note: lowercase without spaces; this is case and space sensitive).
- Select ‘Save’.
- Reload Orgvue.
- Values for the Salary property are blank when positions are cloned:
