This article explains to edit property values for a node or multiple nodes using the Data Pane. A separate article explains the other ways you can edit property values.
The Data Pane can be used with any slide type.
-
Using Tree slides and Worksheet slides, individual nodes or multiple nodes can be selected for editing.
-
Using other slide types, groups of nodes can be selected to edit the nodes included in the group. Examples of groups include:
-
Bars or columns in a Chart slide; and
-
Cells in a Boxgrid or Crosstab slide.
-
The Data Pane can also be used to See which nodes are included in aggregate totals presented on Chart slides.
- By default, the Slide Tab is selected. Select the Data Tab.
- When there are no selected nodes, the Data Pane will be empty:
-
Select a node or multiple nodes to be edited.
- As nodes are selected, they are listed in the data panel, labelled ‘a’ below. Nodes can also be dragged and dropped here.
-
Double-click the value for the property to be edited; enter the new value; and press enter.
- If the property to be edited is displayed on the slide, it will be listed under ‘Slide properties';
- If the property to be edited is not displayed on the slide, but has been added to the data pane, it will be listed under ‘Other properties’;
- If the property to be edited is not listed, you can add is to the data pane by selecting the ‘+’ icon.
As shown below
- Changed values are highlighted; and
- The number of changes are referenced on the information bar.
Changes can be reverted by selecting the ‘changes’ option in the information bar (‘b’ above), or by using the Revert option in the data pane.
IMPORTANT: These edits are examples of data changes (as opposed to pack changes). The data needs to be saved after updates have been made (see, Saving Packs and Data). If you a using a dataset, you cannot revert changes after saving data. See Reverting data changes (and appreciating Drafts).
TIPS:
- You can choose to expand or collapse the Pane using the ‘>’ and ‘<’ icons
-
You can customize which properties are included in the ‘Other Properties’ list. This is helpful when only a subset of a large dataset needs to be presented to users
- Add properties with the ‘+’ icon
- Remove properties with the ‘-‘ icon
-
To identify your required properties, you can:
- Search all available properties
- Filter by property type
-
When a single node is selected, its property values are shown in the Data Pane. If you have multiple nodes selected, and there are different value across the different nodes, ‘Mixed values’ is displayed.
- Left click the Property name to display the values and the number of nodes with each value.
