This article provides a step-by-step guide to create a Crosstab slide with heat-mapped cells displaying average values.
In this example, the average salary value for each function and each Grade level is shown.
The explanation assumes you know how to add a slide and specify the Crosstab slide type (see Analyze and visualize across multiple categories with Crosstabs).
- Ensure the Slide pane is selected
- Select the property with the subgroup categories required for your Columns (in this example, Function is selected)
- Select the property with the subgroup categories required for your Rows (in this example, Grade is selected)
- By default, the count of Records is selected for the Values.
- Select the ‘>’ icon for the property which will define your cell values. In this example, Actual Salary is used
- Select the calculation required. In this example, ‘AVG’ for average is selected. A list of the other calculation options is provided at the end of this article.
In this example, as shown above:
- The values are shown to two decimal places. This is an unhelpful level of detail. The value format is determined through Settings, see How to change the format of values
- The Row order needs to be reversed to present grade levels in descending order, with the most senior level presented at the top
- Select the cog for the Row setting
- Specify the “By Bucket reversed” option
Specify the heatmap option:
- Expand the ‘Color by’ options with the down arrow
- Select “Heat.”
- Select the property and the calculation to be used (Actual Salary and AVG in this example)
- Select your preferred color
Note:
At step 4b, above, ‘AVG’ was selected to display the average values, other options may be required depending on the analysis being conducted. The options are:
- CNTD (Count Distinct): the number of distinct (unique) property values
- SUM: the total of all values when a number property has been selected
- MIN: the lowest value when a number property has been selected
- MAX: the highest value when a number property has been selected
- RNG (Range) the difference between the MIN value and the Max value
- CNT (Count): the number of nodes with non-blank property values
