Are you experiencing slowness while working in Orgvue? For example, simply making entries on a slide has taken an hour to update, only to be met with a "Page Unresponsive" message, like this one:
If so, these are indications that your computer memory usage (i.e., memory footprint) is too high compared to available RAM (i.e., Random Access Memory). When programs and applications consume all or most of our computer's RAM, performance issues will occur as a result, including the potential for random freezes.
The following steps are recommended to check if your memory usage is too high and how to free up some memory, so the processing time improves (reducing/removing slowness):
1. First, check to see how much RAM is available compared to the amount of Memory is actively used. According to Orgvue's Product Specification, the recommended amount of RAM that should be available for high productivity is at least 8GB or 16GB and above.
a. Open up Task Manager by clicking CTRL+ALT+DEL
b. Go to the Performance Tab and click on Memory.
- This will show you how much memory is being used compared to what total RAM is available.
Example: The following snapshot was a result of slow page responsiveness while updating a slide in Workspace. The number of nodes were 235K, many calculations running, processes running and there were numerous PIVOT slides. As a result, the page was really slow, and a "Page Unresponsive" message popped up.
Notice there is only 3.4GB out of 16GB available:
If memory usage (i.e., memory footprint) is pretty high compared to the total PC memory available as shown above, this indicates there's too many processes/applications running.
2. Minimize the number of unnecessary processes running while working in Orgvue.
a. You can check unnecessary processes by clicking SHIFT+ESC or by going to "More Tools" in Google Chrome browser, select Task Manager and see what Task/process is taking up the most memory footprint.
b. Simply clicking on the task/process and hitting "End Process" will remove those unnecessary tasks that are taking a lot of memory.
3. Minimize the number of unnecessary applications running while working in Orgvue.
- Solution: Go to the Startup tab in your Task Manager and disable any applications you don't need running.
4. OrgVue can be slow or can crash when running on a browser with many plugins. For example, certain plugins such as Skype can slow browsers down.
- If this is the case, it is recommended that plugins get disabled if not needed.
