Orgvue performance improvement tips

Orgvue uses your computer to do most of its work. If Orgvue is running slowly, first check that your computer meets the minimum requirements of the Orgvue Product Specification.

Here are some tips to make sure you have the best experience possible.

1. If you are working with many records (greater than 10,000) avoid using “Descendants Of” in your filter control or paging. Try using “Level 1”, “Level 2”, etc. instead.
2. Apply filters to show only the part of the organization you are interested in either in slides or via a View
3. Avoid filtering and paging using properties (columns) which have lots of unique values. For example, “Full Name”, “Email” or “ID Number”.
4. Do not color by properties with lots of unique values or buckets (if a numerical property).
5. Limit the number of “Roll Up” or other calculations displayed on an org chart (including color by) to 4 or fewer.
6. It is best to never duplicate your window tabs by using the "Duplicate" tab functionality on your browser. Duplicating your browser tab will double the amount of PC memory equal to the first tab; which can cause the system to crash or pop up an "Aw, Snap!" message:
   

Minimizing the number of programs and browser tabs that you have open will help especially if you have resource intensive applications such as:

• Facebook
• Teams
• PowerPoint
• Mural
• Media players and editing tools (Snagit, iMovie)
• Virus scans running

If after all of this Orgvue is still not working fast enough, please raise a ticket with our support desk and we will investigate further to see if we can help. Please include as much information to Support as possible. For example:

• What is the name of the tenant?
• Which Dataset are you using?
  • Which Pack?
• When is performance slow?
  • When first opening a pack?
  • When using a particular slide or slides?
    • What slide type is it?
    • How has it been configured (a screenshot may be useful here to convey this information)
      • What layout choices have you chosen?
      • What filters and pages do you have set?
      • What property have you used to color by?
      • What properties and calculations have you added?
  • When actions are being taken? 
    For example:
    • Add node
    • Delete node
    • Edit node
    • Create slide
    • Paging
    • Filtering
    • Navigating between slides
• Has the degradation in performance happened suddenly?
  • If so, consider what changes may have been made to the dataset recently, in particular any additional calculations that may have been applied
