What is a ‘many-to-many relationship’?
Many-to-many relationships are found when there are multiple possible connections across the organization. In the example of Talent Selection, there are:
- Many people in the ‘as-is’ organization; and
- Many positions in the ‘to-be’ organization.
- Many employees can be in consideration for a single position; and
- A single employee can be in consideration for many positions.
That's a lot of complexity to be managed.
How does Orgvue manage ‘many-to-many relationships’?
Links datasets enable the complexity of ‘many-to-many’ relationships to be managed and for connections to be visualized. Unlike hierarchical datasets where every employee or position is a record, in a Links dataset every link is a record. In the example of talent selection, every position an individual employee is in consideration for is a record. This brings the ability to visualize the links for each position and for each employee:
