This article explains how Orgvue’s Search function is used to locate nodes in the organization structure.
- Open the Search Tab by
- using the keyboard shortcut CTRL+F, or by
- selecting ‘Search’ from the Right-hand panel (shown below).
- Enter your search criteria (in this example the name, “Anne”).
- Select the Property to be searched (in this example, “Fullname”).
- Select ‘Search’.
- The number of search results, and the label of each node are shown in the Search Tab; and
- Individual search results are highlighted in the structure.
In the illustration above, three results are listed in the Search Tab, but only one is visible in the structure. This is due to search results being located beyond the number of layers being displayed. To see these, you can:
- Select (click on) a node listed in the Search Results, or
- Expand the number of Visible Levels displayed on the canvas.
Note:
- The highlighting of search results in the structure is limited to 500 nodes. Best practice is to use filters to first reduce the number of nodes being searched. When a filter is applied, all search results are listed in the Search Tab, and an icon explains “Hidden on canvas due to active Filters and Paging” if the result is not visible on the slide. This is illustrated in the Orgvue User Guide.
- Search criteria can include ‘operators’ to search across multiple properties simultaneously. For example, to return positions in the Finance Function, located in New York. A full list of operators with descriptions and examples is provided in the Orgvue User Guide.
