This article explains Dataset Property Mapping and Pack Property Configuration in Orgvue’s template packs.
Dataset Property mapping. For the template packs to work as intended, Orgvue needs to know which properties in your dataset correspond to the standard properties used in the template pack. For example, which property in your dataset contains the compensation values you want to analyse, or which property specifies the functional subgroups you want to compare.
This is done at the property mapping step of the template pack set-up process (see illustration 1, below). The mapping is saved to the dataset. Therefore, when a different template pack is opened with the same dataset, you don’t need to map properties which have previously been mapped. As dataset property mapping makes changes to the dataset, it can only be completed by users with dataset edit access rights. The article How to change mapped dataset properties explains that changes made to datasets through property mapping.
Pack Property Configuration. In addition to the properties in your selected dataset, template packs contain ‘Pack Properties’ to increase the level of insight provided. An example is “Span of Control Group” which categorizes every position according to its span of control. This property isn’t in the selected dataset but exists in the pack.
Some packs contain ‘Required’ configuration, for example the Gender Diversity Story Pack requires the values in your dataset corresponding to the gender categories reported in the pack to be specified. However, most configuration is optional, and the pack can be used with the default configuration.
Template packs are designed to be flexibly configurable so you can get the insight you need. When the pack opens, you are prompted to complete the Pack Configuration, and you can change your configuration choices at any time (see illustration 2, below).
