This article explains what is meant by the term "Hierarchical" data.
Most commonly, the hierarchy is the organization structure with people or positions connected through management reporting lines.
Other examples include hierarchies of activities in a process taxonomy (where activities roll-up into processes and value chains) and skills in a competency taxonomy. These additional data sources are introduced in The Organisation System.
