Display ‘rolled-up’ measures on tree slides

This article explains how to display “rolled-up” measures on Tree slide cards to see aggregate totals at each hierarchical layer:

• For each manager based on their direct reports;
• For each leader based on their reporting line; and
• For the organization based on all positions.

Example output:  See the size and cost of the organization rolled-up for the whole organization and across leadership reporting lines.


This article assumes you know How to create an organization chart. The steps outlined below can be used with any tree slide such as the Icicle, Sunburst and Tree Map.

1. Select the ‘Add Property’ icon in the Slide pane.
2. Select the ‘>’ icon next to the property you want to include.

3. Select how the roll-up is to be calculated with a check mark.

• In the example, below, SUM and AVG have been selected for 'Actualsalary'.

 
 
Illustrations using the other calculation options at step 3, above are shown below.  Each visualization shows only the CEO position; every position ‘rolls-up’ to the CEO so we can see the aggregated total for the entire organization.  In a separate article you can see how to Drill-down through the organization structure.
 

Use the “Records” generated property to calculate headcount

• The ‘Records’ generated property is helpful for calculating headcount as a value of 1 is assigned to every node.

See the minimum, maximum and range of values for number properties

• MIN displays the minimum value for your selected property.
• MAX displays the maximum value.
• RNG displays the range:  the difference between the minimum and maximum values.

See the number of distinct property values and the number of cases with each value

• I the example below, CNTD – Count Distinct – has been specified for the Grade Property.
• The distinct values for the Grade property are shown (1 thru 8), and the count of people in each grade band is presented.

Show position values and rolled-up measures on the same card

The example below shows:

1. The span for the CEO position:  included by adding a check mark to the left of the property label; and
2. The average span rolled-up for the whole organization:  included by selecting AVG selected from the drop-down list.

Reorder and remove data from cards

Information is presented on cards in the same order they are listed in the Slide pane.

• Drag-and-drop the order of properties in the Slide pane to change their card order;
• Select ‘X’ in the Slide pane to remove a property from the card;
