This article introduces Datasets and Packs and how these are used in Orgvue.
- Datasets contain your raw data in a series of rows and columns.
- Packs are collections of slides used to visualize, analyze, and edit your data.
Both are saved in your Orgvue Tenant. This is summarized below:
Datasets and Packs are separate artifacts. When a pack is opened or created, the data used to populate slide content is specified (See Opening an existing pack). As a result:
- The same pack can be used with different datasets: No time is lost rebuilding slides to take account of changes over time to the underlying data, or when the same analysis is needed for different projects.
- Different packs can be used with the same dataset: Once a dataset has been established as the single source of truth, multiple packs can be created to visualize and interact with the same underlying data.
Data Changes and Pack Changes are saved separately
The actions you take whilst working in a Pack will either:
- Change the underlying data being used to populate slides. These are saved as Data changes.
- Change the format and content of the slides in your pack. These are saved as Pack changes.
