This article explains how permissions can be applied to individual properties after Assigning dataset permissions to provide further restrictions. Examples included hiding individual properties from User Groups with dataset access, and restricting the ability to edit values for a property when permission to ‘Update’ the dataset has been assigned.
Property Permissions can be applied by Admins, Dataset Owners and Users with ‘Modify’ Dataset Permission.
The illustration below shows the options which are available.
Note: Property Permissions are only ever used to further restrict Dataset Permissions. If Property Permissions are in conflict with Dataset Permissions (e.g., a User Group with ‘Read-only’ Dataset Permission is given permission to edit a property's values), the Dataset Permissions take precedence.
Editing property ‘Settings’ includes – for example – changing the property type (text, number, etc) and changing the format of number properties.
How to Grant Property Permissions
- Select ‘Mange Properties’ from either Workspace, or Settings
From Workspace:
- Select the ‘Data’ menu.
- Select ‘Manage Properties’.
From Settings
- Select the required Dataset
- Select the ‘…’ icon.
- Select ‘Manage Properties’.
- Select the required property (Actual Salary in this example).
- Select the ‘Permissions’ tab.
- Enter the User Group in the field for the required level of permission. In this example:
- The Finance User Group will not see the Actual Salary property;
- The HRBP User Group will see Actual Salary values, but will not be able to edit the values;
- The Planning User Group will be able to edit Actual Salary values.
- Select ‘Save’.
