This article explains how to add a new property to an existing dataset via Workspace. After the new property is added, you can paste merge values from an existing spreadsheet, or populate values in a pack.
The steps to delete a property are also included in case new properties are created in error.
Note: New properties added to a dataset are not immediately visible in Views and Drafts. This is by design to ensure potentially sensitive data is not shared with users. After being included in a dataset, you can make new dataset properties available in Views and Drafts.
- Select ‘Data’.
- Select ‘Manage Properties’.
- Select ‘Add’.
- Enter the details for the Property to be added:
- Display Name (required). In this example, 'Critical Position'
- Key (required).
- Type (required). In this example, ‘Boolean’ as values for the property will always be ‘Yes’ or ‘No’.
- Description (optional).
- Alternative Keys (optional).
- Tags (optional).
See the Orgvue user guide for information on each of these options.
You can select ‘Save’ whenever the button is enabled. Further options (below) are to specify Values (5) and Permissions (6) for the property. If these are not required, go to Step 7.
You can also:
- Specify how values for the property are to be populated and formatted:
- In this example, ‘Yes / No’ is selected for the Boolean value.
And:
- Set Permissions for the property (see Applying property permissions).
Select ‘Save’ at step 4, 5, or 6 to add the property.
- Refresh Orgvue.
The new property is available to select.
If you have values for the new property in a spreadsheet, these can now be paste merged. Alternatively (as shown above) values can be populated by editing data in a pack. The example below shows:
- The new property added in the Data Pane for values to be specified for selected positions.
- A tree slide ‘Colored by’ the new property enabling positions to be dragged-and-dropped to the Color Legend category to set property values.
To delete a property from your dataset
In the example below, a new property has been created in error. It has the default name ‘New property 1’.
- Follow steps 1 and 2 as shown above (select 'Data' and 'Manage properties')
- Search for the property to be removed.
- Select the property to be removed.
- Select 'Delete'.
- Confirm 'Delete'.
- Close the 'Manage Properties' window.
- Refresh Orgvue.
- The property is no longer available to select.
