Managing properties and property values

This article explains how properties in a dataset are managed.

An overview of the ‘Manage Properties’ functionality is provided and step-by-step guides for common actions can be accessed via the embedded links.  

‘Manage Properties’ can be accessed via Workspace or Settings by Admins and Users with ‘Modify’ Dataset permission.

1. To access ‘Manage Properties’ from Settings:

1. Select the dataset containing properties to be managed

2. To access ‘Manage Properties’ from Workspace:

1. Select the ‘Data’ Menu
2. Select ‘Manage Properties’

Common requirements include:

1. Adding a new property to a dataset

1. Managing a Property

2. Setting the Display Name
3. Setting the property Type
4. Deleting the property from the dataset

2.  Managing a property’s Values

5. Populating property values using Expressions
6. Providing users with values to select from, for example
   • Setting an expression lookup for users to select property values
   • Setting a dependent lookup to maintain logic across related properties
   • Specifying a lookup table to populate values
7. Specifying ‘Required’ properties
8. Formatting property values, for example,
   • Changing the format of numbers
   • Defining ‘Buckets’ for number properties

3. Managing Permissions for a property
   • Applying Permissions to control which users can see and edit a property
