This article introduces Property Types and how this is set for individual properties.
Every property has an assigned ‘Type’ which describes its values. There are four options:
- Text (e.g., Full Name, Position Title, Function, Location)
- Number (e.g., Salary, Bonus)
- Date (e.g. Start Date, Date of Birth, Position Start Date)
- Boolean (properties which only ever have two values, such as ‘true/ false’; ‘Yes/ No’
The ‘Type’ of a property is always indicated alongside its Display Name:
Orgvue automatically detects property types when data is uploaded and there is a step in the upload wizard to review the detected types. A common requirement is to change the Type of ID and Parent ID properties from Number to Text.
Note: Only Admins, Dataset Owners and Users with ‘Modify’ Dataset Permission can change Property Types.
To set the ‘type’ for a new property being added, or to change the type of an existing property
- Select the required property
- Select the ‘Property’ tab
- Select the ‘Type’ drop down
- Select the required Property type
- Select ‘Save’
