How do I use and reuse pinned (saved) views of data for reporting

A pinned (saved) report is the mechanism that OrgVue uses to create a permanent record of the state of a dataset at a point in time i.e. any view can be pinned for reference at a future date or to be shared with others.

It is sometimes overlooked that pinned reports are templates, and subject to certain conditions, can be used across datasets within a tenant.

Saving a reports is straightforward:

  • After drawing a chart, click the ‘Pin’ icon to save the chart

  • In the ‘Save Report’ Dialogue, type a name for the report

  • Access saved reports from this drop down

A report is saved in a dedicated area (below the datasets) in the same tab as the report

The detail shows:

  • the report template name
  • the parent dataset with which it is associated
  • the last save date
  • the security settings: the role based security is identical to that for datasets

The report template is always logically associated with a dataset but is reusable across different datasets provided certain conditions are met:

  • The template must be common, i.e. matching property keys
  • Security is set up correctly i.e. at least view on the report for the individuals(s) concerned, likewise the dataset
  • Datasets and reports are in the same tab

then reports should work on across datasets i.e. the reports will be visible in the report drop down at the top right of workspace.

Based on the examples above, when inspecting the list of available reports from within a given dataset, those with which the report template is directly associated will appear at the top, while those that meet the 'reuse' rules will be listed below the grey separator.

In the example below, both datasets can access the same reports, but with the report ordering impacted by dataset ownership:
