To increase the flexibility of property value population, three 'Property expression modes' are available in the ‘Edit Property’ dialogue.
In order to benefit from Best Practices related to property value population, you are strongly recommended to read this article in conjunction with the companion article on Property evaluation modes
Here is the documented behaviour of the three Property expression mode options settings and you should choose the correct option based on the desired behaviour:
Property expression mode |
Result |
Default |
Nodes with an existing value retain that value. If a node has a blank value it is replaced with the Default value. |
Initial |
The property is only populated when creating a new node (or nodes) by setting the first value for that property of those nodes. |
Fixed |
All nodes will return this value regardless of what has been entered in the cells themselves. |
- Default mode will only populate a cell that is blank
- Fixed value will not allow direct population of the value in a property (it will show as read-only)
